The original motive of Body Tattooing
Some sources suggest that the origin of Chinese tattoos came from ancient Chinese people's admiration of the wild animals?beauty and power, such as their colorful skins and body shape.  Although human beings thought themselves "the king of every creature on the planet", they deeply appreciated some wild animals' strength and instinctive talent.
For example, people living in the jungle were impressed by the leopard's speed, the tiger's mighty power, or Snake's sagacity. This kind of appreciation encouraged some ancient Chinese people to puncture themselves with decorative patterns or colors to enhance their own bodily aesthetic values. | 
Using tattoos for survival
In the ancient time, people living in the jungle needed to have tattoos to camouflage them. It was only by covering up their bodies with the patterns or colors of the bush or boughs of trees that they could effectively protect themselves from some possible attacks by wild animals.
Many ancient Chinese people believe that having tattoos of certain symbols or patterns can protect them from the evil and safeguard them from the vicious attacks from the devil.
In ancient Chinese society, many clans had rules for using tattoos to distinguish their clan people from others. Most of those tattoos symbolized something about their God's figure or images.
