Chinese Tattoos - Turtles
There is a classic Chinese story called "The race between the rabbit and the turtle".
In this story, a rabbit choose a turtle as his competitor for a racing game and see who can run fast.
For such a race, the winner obviously is rabbit. You can image that rabbit can run, jump and even leap forward,
but for a turtle, if he want to reach a destination, he should keep crawling on and on for ages.
But the results of this racing game is surprising, as the turtle has finally beaten that proud rabbit to win the game.
You might ask how?
This is because rabbit is too arrogant to lose this match.
At the beginning, he has left turtle behind him for a long long distance.
That makes him try to take a nap in the middle of the match.
The nap soon turned into a big sleep, but the rabbit has the confidence that the turtle could never meet his match
during this game, as the turtle's moving pace is far too slow.
But the turtle keep moving just at that slow pace but with a great determination. He didn't give up and when
he moved past the rabbit, the latter one was still in his sleep.
Finally when rabbit woke up, he found it was too late for him to catch up with turtle, as the turtle has almost reach
the final destination.
In this story, the turtle plays a role as being modest, patient and determined and Chinese believe that modesty and
determination can help the weak ones beat the strong ones.
On the other hand, turtle in Chinese culture has been well respected due to its long long life span. So the image of
turtle was often used to symbolize the longevity of a human being.
